Lori (50), who hates exercise, got rid of her lower back pain and is stronger and healthier than ever
WATCH LORI’S STORY
Lori hates exercise and thought the Reshape Method® sounded far too simple to work – until her lower back pain disappeared, her walk became stronger, and she realized she was fitter than ever.
Lori, though skeptical at first, finally found a way to get pain-free and stronger without fighting her body
Lori was one of the very first women to join the Reshape Method® back in 2021 – in fact, she was number five. And she did not arrive as someone who loved working out. Quite the opposite.
“I hate to exercise with a passion.”
She had tried P90X, water aerobics, gym memberships, and plenty of the usual approaches, but either didn’t enjoy them, didn’t stick with them, or felt like she was putting in a lot of effort without really working with her body.
Walking was different. She loved to walk. Then she discovered that even the way she was walking could be changed. That turned out to be a pretty important piece.
“I don’t have lower back pain anymore.”
And once Lori understood how to realign and how to use her body differently, she didn’t need to become someone who suddenly loved aerobics, running, or spending hours at the gym. She could get stronger doing more of what already suited her.
LORI’S RESULTS AT A GLANCE
HER LOWER BACK PAIN WENT AWAY
One of the biggest changes for Lori was also one of the simplest to describe.
“I don’t have lower back pain anymore.”
She had spent years exercising in ways that, as she now sees it, often meant working against her body and repeating movements without really understanding whether she was using the right muscles.
The Reshape Method® gave her a very different way of approaching movement – starting with alignment and teaching her body how to distribute the work more effectively.
HER WALK BECAME MORE POWERFUL
Walking had always been Lori’s favourite form of exercise, so learning that she wasn’t using her body as well as she could was an eye-opener. Once her alignment and gait began to change, walking felt very different.
“I have a powerful walk.”
She could feel the appropriate muscles working, get more out of a walk in less time, and use something she already enjoyed as a genuinely effective way to move her body.
That mattered because Lori had no interest in turning herself into someone who suddenly wanted to live at the gym.
SHE SAYS HER BODY IS STRONGER THAN IT HAS EVER BEEN
Lori wasn’t perfectly consistent with the program, and she’s very open about that. Her schedule moves around, life happens, and she didn’t suddenly become someone who exercises religiously every day. Yet she says:
“I am healthier and more physically fit now than I have been ever. My body is stronger than it has ever been.”
For Lori, that’s part of what made the Reshape Method® sustainable – it didn’t require her to organize her whole life around exercise in order to benefit from it.
SHE CAN KEEP UP WITH A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD
At the time of this interview, Lori was spending a lot of her day chasing after a seven-year-old. And she noticed that she could do it.
“I am chasing a seven-year-old right now pretty much all day, and I am doing that well.”
She doesn’t think she would have managed that nearly as comfortably before.
Sometimes active aging looks like hiking a mountain, sometimes it looks like keeping up with a seven-year-old without your body filing a formal complaint – both count.
SHE LIKES HOW HER BODY LOOKS AND FEELS
Lori also noticed changes in the way her body looked and felt.
“I am happy with how I look right now. I am happy with just the way I feel.”
She describes feeling more toned, stronger, and says her metabolism feels like it has naturally picked up again. But the bigger change seems to be that she no longer feels as though she has to battle her body to get a result from it.
“THIS IS NEVER GONNA WORK”
Lori was not instantly convinced. In fact, when she first heard how gentle the Reshape Method® was, her reaction was basically:
“This is never gonna work.”
She had spent years absorbing the same message many women have – that getting fitter means harder workouts, more effort, more reps, and probably doing several things you don’t particularly enjoy.
So the idea that small corrections, gentler progression, and working with her body could create meaningful change sounded almost too simple.
“It can’t be this simple. It is. I’m telling you, it is.”
That simplicity ended up being one of the things she valued most.
SHE STOPPED WORKING AGAINST HER BODY
Looking back at the other exercise programs she had tried, Lori realized she had often been putting the reps in without really knowing how her body was doing them.
She was working hard, but not necessarily well.
“I was putting the reps in, but I was putting them in incorrectly. I was overdoing it.”
The Reshape Method® gave her another option – a gentler progression that helped her understand her alignment, which muscles should be working, and how to make small changes that carried over into everyday movement.
For Lori, it felt freeing. She could stop trying to force herself into somebody else’s version of fitness and start working with the body she actually had.
SMALL CHANGES MADE A MUCH BIGGER DIFFERENCE THAN SHE EXPECTED
Lori teaches her own students that little changes can create big results over time. She believed that intellectually, she just wasn’t entirely convinced it applied to her body.
The Reshape Method® changed that.
She could workout a few days a week, make small corrections, and begin noticing muscles turning on that she hadn’t even realized she wasn’t using.
“All of a sudden, a muscle is turning on that I wasn’t even aware of.”
She wasn’t jumping, pounding, or doing hardcore workouts, yet she was getting stronger. That was one of her biggest surprises.
THE COACHING SHOWED HER WHAT SHE COULDN’T SEE HERSELF
Lori also wasn’t entirely convinced that meaningful movement coaching could happen over Zoom: she was in West Virginia, I was in Canada – How much could I really see?
Quite a lot, as it turned out.
“It was amazing that you could see it on Zoom from Canada to West Virginia.”
During her coaching sessions, small adjustments could completely change what she felt in an exercise. A slight tweak in position could suddenly switch on a muscle that had barely been participating.
And because Lori could feel the difference herself, it wasn’t simply a correction she had to memorize ... her body started learning it.
SHE DIDN’T HAVE TO BECOME CONSISTENTLY “GOOD AT EXERCISE”
One thing I particularly like about Lori’s story is that she doesn’t pretend she became the world’s most disciplined exerciser. She didn’t.
Her schedule is still unpredictable, she still doesn’t love exercising, and she isn’t interested in spending huge chunks of her week doing workouts.
The Reshape Method® fit because it was flexible enough to work within real life.
She could do the workouts, learn the principles, and start carrying them into the way she walked, reached, stood, and moved throughout the day. That is a very different proposition from “here is another workout schedule you must follow perfectly forever.”
SHE LEARNED THAT SUPPORT MATTERS
Lori had bought and joined plenty of things before – that was part of her hesitation about investing again. Was this simply going to become one more program she didn’t finish?
What made the Reshape Method® different for her was the coaching, feedback, accountability, and community around the actual exercises.
“If you’re doing those gym workouts and you’re doing those home workouts and you don’t have anybody to support you, I don’t know that you’re doing them correctly.”
The group also gave her the chance to see how other women were progressing, learn from what they were experiencing, and be part of an international community of women all trying to move better.
SHE FOUND A WAY OF MOVING SHE CAN ACTUALLY LIVE WITH
Lori has tried enough fitness programs to know the difference between something she can force herself to do for a while and something that genuinely fits her life.
The Reshape Method® gave her a way to work with her body rather than constantly trying to overpower it.
Her lower back pain is gone, she feels stronger, her walk is more powerful, she can feel the right muscles working during ordinary movement, and she can keep up with a very energetic seven-year-old without needing to reinvent herself as someone who loves exercise.
As Lori puts it:
“It’s made a huge difference in my daily living.”
For someone who started out thinking the whole thing sounded far too simple to work, that’s a pretty good result.
COULD ALIGNMENT BE YOUR MISSING PIECE?
Lori didn’t need another gym membership, punishing workout, or regimented plan she would eventually stop doing. She needed to understand how her body was aligned and moving so that the exercise she did want to do could work better for her.
She reshaped her alignment, resolved her lower back pain, built more strength, and found a way of moving that fits into her life rather than taking it over.
