Lucy (75) changed how she walks ... and says it gave her back her youth
WATCH LUCY’S STORY
At almost 76, lifelong exerciser Lucy discovered there was still a lot she could change about the way her body moved.
Seven weeks in, Lucy was standing taller, breathing better, and getting more from exercise without working harder
At 75, Lucy was hardly new to exercise. She had always been interested in movement, had spent years going to gyms and studios, and felt she had done a pretty good job of keeping herself in shape.
Then life, menopause, and age did what they do, and after being diagnosed with breast cancer the year before, Lucy became even more aware that her body had changed.
She still wanted to move well, stay strong, and keep progressing, but she had reached that point where it was tempting to think perhaps she had already done everything she could do.
Seven weeks into the Reshape Method®, she had changed her mind.
“You do reach a point where you think maybe you’ve done everything that you can do, and that is absolutely not true. You can always move forward.”
And for Lucy, one of the biggest changes was something she had been doing all her life: walking.
LUCY’S RESULTS AT A GLANCE
SHE LEARNED TO WALK IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAY
Lucy had been walking for decades, of course, but she realized she had been dragging her legs and not really using the rest of her body. She hadn’t understood why walking could make her so tired.
Once her alignment and gait started to change, she began feeling her whole body participate.
“If I didn’t learn anything except how to walk better, for me it would’ve been worth the price of the program.”
Now, instead of walking feeling like something her legs alone have to drag her through, she feels full-body engagement and says walking itself feels strengthening.
“Being able to walk properly – that is youth. That gives you back your youth.”
That may be one of my favourite descriptions of active aging yet.
HER POSTURE CHANGED WITHIN WEEKS
Lucy began noticing changes in the mirror very early in the program. Simple cues changed the way she aligned herself, and when she walked, she felt taller and more upright.
“I feel like I’m reaching for the sky.”
And the difference wasn’t simply cosmetic. Standing taller made her feel as though she could breathe better, move better, and feel lighter.
SHE WAS GETTING MORE FROM EXERCISE WITHOUT WORKING HARDER
Lucy had spent years being instructed through different exercises, but she realized that knowing the movement and knowing what your own body is actually doing are two very different things.
With the Reshape Method®, she began understanding which muscles she was trying to engage, why the movement mattered, and what she was supposed to feel.
“Physically, I don’t feel as though I’m really working as hard, but I’m getting more out of the exercises.”
At Week 7, she was still happily working through Phase I and II because she was getting so much from them. There was no rush to “progress” for the sake of progressing.
SHE BECAME MUCH MORE BODY-AWARE
The private coaching sessions gave Lucy something she hadn’t had in regular gyms or studios: feedback specific to how her body was moving.
That changed the way she approached familiar exercises.
She gives the example of clamshells. A friend told her she found them easy, and Lucy’s immediate thought was that they probably weren’t doing the same exercise in quite the same way. Because once Lucy understood how to do the movement properly, she felt exactly why it mattered.
That level of body awareness started carrying over into bending, walking, and everyday movement.
SHE FEELS LIGHTER, HAPPIER, AND MORE EMPOWERED
For Lucy, the changes aren’t only physical.
“I feel as though I can breathe better, I can move better, and I just feel lighter, and I feel happier.”
She also describes the program as mentally engaging because she isn’t simply following instructions. She’s thinking about movement, learning what her body is doing, and creating new patterns.
“It does make me feel very empowered.”
SHE HAD BEEN EXERCISING FOR YEARS. THIS FELT DIFFERENT.
Lucy knew how to follow an exercise class. What she hadn’t always known was whether she was engaging the right muscles, what a movement was actually meant to accomplish, or whether her body had found a workaround.
That distinction mattered to her. She didn’t want to just do an exercise because somebody said, “Do ten of these.” She wanted to understand what she was trying to change.
And that made the Reshape Method® feel less like another exercise program and more like learning a new operating system for her body.
“I was starting to understand what I was doing and why I was doing those things.”
SMALL CHANGES WERE SHOWING UP IN EVERYDAY LIFE
Lucy describes the results as subtle, but fast. She wasn’t waiting for one dramatic moment where everything suddenly changed. Instead, she kept noticing how small adjustments were changing normal things like walking and bending.
That’s what made the process exciting.
“I’m seeing results much faster.”
The movements themselves were often more doable than exercises she had attempted in the past, yet she felt she was getting more benefit from them because she finally understood how to use her body while doing them.
SHE DIDN’T FEEL PRESSURED TO KEEP UP
At Week 7, Lucy hadn’t moved into Phase III yet. And that was fine. She knew she had ongoing access to the program, so there was no sense that she needed to rush through the material just to say she had completed it.
She could stay where her body was learning the most, then progress when she was ready. For someone who wants lasting change rather than a gold star for finishing quickly, that matters.
THE PRIVATE AND GROUP COACHING MADE IT PERSONAL
Lucy had spent money on private trainers before, so she understood the value of personal attention. What surprised her was how personal the Reshape Method® could feel even in a group setting.
Questions were answered individually, movement issues were addressed specifically, and she could learn from what other women were experiencing at different stages of the program.
“I feel it’s very personal even though you’re doing it in a group setting.”
She also appreciated being able to hear other women’s questions because often someone else would raise something that made her think differently about her own body.
AT ALMOST 76, SHE’S NOT INTERESTED IN DECIDING SHE’S DONE
Lucy had reached an age where it would be easy to assume that certain physical changes were simply inevitable. She doesn’t see it that way anymore.
“It’s never too late to make changes. I think this is a time to really make changes.”
For Lucy, moving well isn’t about trying to pretend she’s younger.
It’s about maintaining the things that make life feel youthful: walking confidently, learning new things, challenging herself, feeling strong, and continuing to move forward.
“We always need these new challenges. That’s how we stay young.”
Seven weeks in, she already felt different enough to call the experience life-changing.
Not dramatic. Not flashy. Just a body that was working better, and a woman who could feel there was still a lot more available to her.
COULD ALIGNMENT BE YOUR MISSING PIECE?
Lucy didn’t need to be told to exercise more. She had already been exercising for decades. What she needed was to understand how her body was actually moving and changing her alignment, so the exercise and movement she was already doing could work better for her.
Lucy reshaped her alignment, changed the way she walked, and discovered that at almost 76, there was still plenty of room to move forward.
